Nobutomo Ban (1773-1846) was a scholar of the Japanese classics in the latter half of the Edo period.
Born in the Obama domain (currently Fukui Prefecture), he was adopted as a son of Nobumasa Ban at the age of 14 in 1786 and moved to Edo in 1787.
After his retirement for reasons of health at the age of 49, he devoted himself to academic research and became a disciple of Norinaga Motoori after Norinaga's death. He made a remarkable achievement in studies on classics.
His collection of books are now divided into several libraries such as Kyoto University Library and Obama City Library.
