大日本樹木誌 巻之三 Trees and shrubs indigenous in Japan proper, vol. 3
"Trees and shrubs indigenous in Japan proper, Volume One" was published in 1922, but the drawings for Volume Two were destroyed by fire in the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923, and this and the following volumes have never been published. The drawings shown here were drawn for the Volume Three of the book by Toshio Yamada under supervision of G. Koidzumi in a room in Department of Botany, Kyoto University. The complete set of the drawings, accompanied with several photographs, have been kept in the Department of Botany Library (now Biological Science Library) and utilised for research.
T. Yamada (1882～1941) was a highly regarded scientific botanical artist. Apart from many of the figures for Volume One of the book, he drew for "牧野植物図鑑", "朝鮮樹木誌", among others.
