The Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University has actively collected materials written in local languages of Asia and African areas since its foundation. Materials in Western Asia and the Islamic world comprise one of Japan’s largest collections of books in Arabic, as well as those in Persian and Ottoman Turkish. Also, materials concerning Islamic Studies (Islamic thought) include not a few rare books. This collection of images, “Rare Collection on Islamic Studies (ASAFAS)”, focuses on manuscripts and lithographs among these rare books.

- The digitization and metadata compilation of this collection were realized thanks to the cooperation of the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University and other relevant people.
- Some images are affected by the shadow in the gutter, because we prioritized the preservation of the materials and refrained from forcing open the books beyond their physical limitations such as fragile spines.
