Viscount Shinagawa, as soon as he had founded Sonjodo, collected and preserved many relics and writings of late royalists during the Meiji Restoration and exhibited them to public on memorial occasions. These items are recorded on the list edited by the viscount. Among them were many letters, petitions, memorandums, paintings and poems, which the viscount organized and posted on folding screens to secure their long-term preservation. Currently there exist 23 folding screens: 21 consisting of six panels each and the rest, two panels each. Not a few of the writings have significant importance in the research of history from the end of the Edo Period to the beginning of the Meiji Period.
